Drones’ Good, Bad

Drones were everywhere at CES – bigger, smaller, smarter, more agile, new rotor design, retractable landing gear, 3D imaging, longer flight time, even one you could ride in “in a few years.”   They’re going to be great for business and personal fun.  The only problem we’re going to have is the brains at the controls.  As George Carlin said, “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” [Read more…]

There’s a reason CES is in Vegas every year…things look more real, better on the stage…you get entertained no matter where you turn.  Once the stage show ends you go home, wake up the next morning with a throbbing head and wonder what you were thinking.  There were some fantastic concepts, ideas, products shown at this year’s show.  There were some good ones.  There were some you-gotta-be-kiddin stuff.  But best of all you got to see what was going to be real 3-5 years from now.  This year it’s obvious we’ve got a lotta work ahead but damn it’s gonna be good, it’s gonna be fun. IoT Journey

If you were unfortunate you hit CES this week where everything was the most important thing there was in the universe.  And each one was collecting data about the car, the house, your universe, the people around you, you.  Yes we’ll have IoT sensors everywhere – about 30M for business, 20M for consumers.  That’s a whole lotta data gathering all designed to help you.  Well you and the company who is holding your data in a “safe, secure” place for you.  Actually that’s a place where they can try to figure you out more and sell you more product/services or simply tap into the information and use it.  Folks have everything figured out except how to store it somewhere long enough to figure out what to do with it and keep it away from prying eyes.  That as they say is still “a work in progress.” [Read more…]

Ask, Listen

Companies across the industry push out new products, new services as qucikly as possible wrapped in beautifully crafted marketing messages of how great it is, how superior it is to anything else out there.  Then they sit back and wonder why consumers don’t instantly see the features/benefits and buy it, rent it in unbeivable numbers to deliver record profits.  The only problem is the consumer doesn’t get it, doesn’t understand what’s in it for them.  His or her needs and satisfaction should be the key area of interest, concern for companies…not an uncomfortable afterthought.  Everyone is trying to change the customer…maybe we don’t want to be changed!  Today’s consumer expects more from you and if you don’t deliver he/she will go elsewhere…regardless of the price. Great Deals

Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Green Saturday, whatever we had a ton of great shopping days this year and now we’re ready for Boxing Day and post Christmas clean-up special, specials.  Some things are too good to pass up and when they’re that good…fergedaboutit!  The cons, shifty folks, neer-do-wells, nasties were out in force (and still are)  It’s amazing how many fraudsters came to my inbox.  When even hackers for hackers can get hacked all we can say is be on your guard with every click or someone, somewhere, sometime will step up and say, “Thanks!” [Read more…]
